Dance, Music and Good Times; 10 days in June
“Dance there upon the shore; What need have you to care for wind and water’s roar?” (WB Yeats, To a Child Dancing in the Wind)
For 10 days in June the Harling Irish Dancers of South Florida under the direction of Maureen Harling- Welty, did as WB Yeats suggests, “danced up the shore”. Although Yeats was probably referring to his beloved shores of County Sligo this group danced upon many of Ireland’s shores, from Clare to Donegal to Dublin, and even to the lakes and rivers of Ireland.
The 10 day journey which started in County Clare and ended in County Limerick included such wonderful activities as music sessions in local pubs, dancing for locals and tourists alike, visiting the Irish Speaking areas of the Aran Islands, and Gleann Cholm Cille, learning about Ireland’s rich history from the Celts to modern day Irish, and of course learning about the music and dancing forms that influence today’s Irish Step dancing.
Adults and children alike were introduced to all that Ireland has to offer from its wonderful music, culture, Gaelic sports and of course people. And where would any Ireland tour be without visits to castles, the Cliffs of Moher and Trinity College. A journey for only 10 days but an experience never to be forgotten.
